Can a friend coordinate your wedding? If you have a friend willing and eager to help you plan your wedding or run the show on the day of, you might be excited to take them up on their offer. But is that really a good idea?
Before having your friend as your wedding coordinator, consider these two things:
1) Do they have the right experience, training, and professionalism to make your day the best? A professional wedding coordinator has tried and true processes. We can anticipate vendor needs we have pre-established relationships with local vendors, meaning we all work in sync.
2) Are you okay if your "wedding coordinator" doesn't get to fully enjoy your day? As you're getting ready, they need to be in the venue space to greet vendors and help setup. When you and your wedding party are celebrating after your ceremony, your wedding coordinator friend needs to pack up your ceremony decor and repurpose signage and florals. During cocktail hour, instead of mixing and mingling, they need to ensure all tables are set for dinner and check-in with catering. This list goes on. If your friend is truly fulfilling the role of a professional wedding coordinator, there won’t be much time to join the fun.
So, technically, yes, you can have a friend be your wedding coordinator. But should they be? No. There is so much that goes into coordinating a wedding and simply put, hiring a professional wedding coordinator will alleviate stress and ensure you (and your friends & family) have the best possible day!
