It Was -20 Celsius With Windchill Around -35c (frickin' Cold!) With A Foot Of Fresh Snow Flying Around Everywhere In The Wind With More Falling! Brittani & Ryan Toughed It Out Without Complaint And It Was A Beautiful Winter Wonderland! Stay Warm Everyone!

Right Around The Time We Were Doing These Photos There Was A Loud Boom, The Ground Seemed To Shake A Little And Then There Seemed To Be A Huge Puff Of Snow In The Background By The Victoria Glacier. Yup, There Was An Avalanche When We Were Out On The Frozen Lake! I'm Trying Really Hard Not To Say Something Cheesy About How Their Love Moved Mountains.... Darnit... I Think I Just Did!

I Had Such A Great Time With This Bunch Of Ladies... It's Kind Of A Dream To Have A Group Who Are Really Into Posing!! I'm A Little Obsessed With Layers & Levels In Group Photos When I Have Something More Than Flat Ground To Work With! Anyone Else Really Love Posing Portraits As Much As I Do?

So There's A Few Reasons Why I Chose To Go On A Bit Of A Break From My Regular World This Week. Around This Time Last Year I Was Planning A Trip To California, But I Had To Put That Trip On Hold When We Found Out My Mom Had Cancer. I Pretty Much Dropped Everything And Flew To Newfoundland For A Few Weeks In March. I Went Back Home, Took A Short Trip To Toronto, And Quickly Went Back To Newfoundland As Mom Was Deteriorating Quickly. It Was A Year Ago Today That We Lost Her. ⁣ ⁣ I Thought Going Away And Working Like Crazy Would Distract Me From How I Feel, It's Always Been My Way To Bury My Feelings, Suppress All The Bad, But It Only Worked To A Certain Point. I Did Enjoy Getting To Hang Out With @coleycookphotography And @jenlgray This Morning Before It All Hit Me, Weirdly, Almost To The Exact Moment That Mom Slipped Away. So I'm Going To Spend The Evening Curled Up In Bed, Crying My Eyes Out Sporadically And Thinking About What Awesome Things Mom Would Have Said About The Photos I've Been Taking Lately If She Had The Chance To See Them.

I Was Picking Rocks Out Of My Knees After Getting This Shot. I Loved This Background But When I Was Standing Up You Could See The Road Below So I Laid Out On The Ground To Make It All Disappear, Making It Look Like We Were In A Much More Remote Location! Genius, Right?

Yesterday I Started The Day Early To Shoot For Sunrise... And Last Night I Ended The Night Late For Sunset. I Am Seriously In Love With This Photo! Thank You Katelyn & Chris For Battling The Bugs, The Bone-chilling Wind In Less Clothes Than One Normally Wears To Bed & That Long Hike To The Top Of Buffalo Point To Get This Shot! And For Hanging Around For When The Sun Dropped And The People Left So Get Could Get The Field All To Ourselves For A Few. And For Climbing Back Down In Total Darkness. Awesomeness.

I'm Going To Share A Story That Is Really Quite Embarrassing... But There Are Some Lessons To Be Learned From It, So I Will Let My Pride Take A Bit More Of A Beating If It Helps Someone Else.⁣ ⁣ April In The Mountains Is Messy. The Snow Is Melting, The Ground Is Wet & It's Super Muddy. So Mid-ceremony Yesterday, I'm Trying To Get Down The Hill At The Viewpoint At Emerald Lake That Is A Mix Of Thick Mud & Melting Snow. Before I Knew What Happened I Was Flat Out On My Side, Both Cameras Hit The Ground Hard. Covered In Mud, Water & Snow. I Looked Like A Creature From The Black Lagoon From The Waist Down. I Got Up Quickly, Got Back To Shooting. One Camera Was Broken. Would Not Turn On. The Other Was On, Not Showing The Display. I Couldn't Change Focus Points, The Dials Weren't Doing What They Were Supposed To, Autofocus Was Toast. Fuuuuuuck! There Was A Wedding Ceremony. I Had To Do Something. So Here's The First Lesson. The Beep. The Beep That People Either Love Or Hate. Well, I Am A Big Fan Of The Beep & It Saved My Ass Yesterday. Thinking Quickly, I Put My Lens In To Manual, Pressed The Shutter, Adjusted The Lens Until I Heard That Sweet Beep That Let Me Know The Photo Was In Focus. I Had To Adjust How I Shoot, To Work With One Camera And In Fully Manual Mode. But I Did It. I Didn't Fuck Up The Photos & Ruin Someone's Wedding Day. So Use The Darn Beep, It Could Save You One Day. I Can't Even Tell You How Stressed I Was, I Tried To Not Let It Show, But Wow. You Really Can't Control What Can Happen On A Wedding Day, You Just Need To Do The Best You Can, Get As Creative With You Problem Solving, To Just Make It Happen!⁣ ⁣ Congratulations To Andrea & David, Who, Along With Their Guests, Will Always Have The Memory Of Me Bodyslamming The Mud, Looking Like A Swamp Monster, For The Rest Of Their Lives...

I Was Back At Moraine Lake Yesterday, My First Day Since The Road Was Re-opened This Year. Originally Kevin Had Planned A Surprise Proposal For Charlene There But He Got Excited And Popped The Question A Day Early! This Was One Of 2 Surprise Proposals That I Was Going To Do At Moraine This Year... I'm No Longer Offering Them As A Full Surprise. I Actually Didn't Sleep The Night Before Out Of Fear For All The Things That Could Go Wrong Trying To Do This At Moraine Lake. I Might Have Cheered A Little When I Got The Email Saying He Had Already Proposed Haha⠀ ⠀ Moraine Lake Was Looking A Bit Different Than Usual Yesterday. It's Still Pretty Much Frozen Except For A Small Open Section, But The Water Levels Also Crazy Low, Like 15 Feet Lower Than Usual Because, I Imagine, There Hasn't Been Enough Melt. It Was Super Tricky To Shoot There, More Than Usual Even, Because There Were People Everywhere In The Background On The Ice. I Almost Never Pull A Photo Into Photoshop, But There Were So Many People And Their Reflections In The Water, I Had To Make It All Go Away Or I Wouldn't Have Been Happy. Swipe To See The Before!

Ok, So I Finally Stopped Snuggling The Cats & Got Out Of Bed. I Got To Work & Answered A Good Chunk Of E-mails, Decided I Needed A Break From That, So I Started To Work On Editing This Elopement. ⁠ ⁠ Chrystal & Jared's Ceremony Looks Like It Was Just The Two Of Them In An Amazing Spot Saying Vows To Each Other (with Me & @patricksmiley, Of Course), But In Reality There Were About 40 People Above Us Watching Their Private Ceremony. Some Were Respectful & Quiet, Others Were Not. They Were Also Being Photographed By Complete Strangers As They Said I Do!. We All Try Really Hard To Make It Look Like You Are Alone In These Beautiful Locations, But The Reality Is... Well, It Just Doesn't Happen Often!
