Even With Ocean And Rocky Beaches, I Still Love To Get Into The Trees And Shoot. Same Thing In The Mountains! Yes, I Love The Mountains, But The Trees Hold A Place In My Heart So I Will Try To Sneak Away To Them Whenever I Can!
You'd Never Know It But 100 Feet From This Spot, Sue & I Both Got Caught In The Undertow While Swimming, I Got Cramps In Both Legs, Swallowed A Ton Of Ocean And Nearly Drowned About An Hour After Taking This Photo. One Of The Scariest Experiences Of My Life!! But It Would Have Been An Awfully Pretty Place To Die, Right? What's Your Scariest Near-death Experience?
I'm Headed Back To @emeraldlakelodge This Week, But I'm Pretty Sure It Doesn't Look Like This Yet. Luckily I Love How Emerald Lake Looks With Snow. On Friday I Am Then Headed To Utah For A Week And A Half And I'd Love To Shoot While I'm There... In Arches Np, Zion Np, The Salt Flats And Anywhere In Between... So If You Wanna Shoot, Send Me A Dm!! Let Me Know Some Places To Visit Too!
I Had Such A Great Time With This Bunch Of Ladies... It's Kind Of A Dream To Have A Group Who Are Really Into Posing!! I'm A Little Obsessed With Layers & Levels In Group Photos When I Have Something More Than Flat Ground To Work With! Anyone Else Really Love Posing Portraits As Much As I Do?
I Have Been Dreaming About Shooting At The Bonneville Salt Flats From The First Time I Saw A Picture Of Them. Tonight, That Dream Came True! What A Truly Amazing Place! What's More Amazing Though? Burgundy & Mike, For Trudging Out In The That Cold Water & Standing On The Crazy Sharp Salt (i Had No Idea Salt Was That Sharp!) After Spending Hours In A Car With Me. Worth It? Abso-frickin-lutely!
So There's A Few Reasons Why I Chose To Go On A Bit Of A Break From My Regular World This Week. Around This Time Last Year I Was Planning A Trip To California, But I Had To Put That Trip On Hold When We Found Out My Mom Had Cancer. I Pretty Much Dropped Everything And Flew To Newfoundland For A Few Weeks In March. I Went Back Home, Took A Short Trip To Toronto, And Quickly Went Back To Newfoundland As Mom Was Deteriorating Quickly. It Was A Year Ago Today That We Lost Her. I Thought Going Away And Working Like Crazy Would Distract Me From How I Feel, It's Always Been My Way To Bury My Feelings, Suppress All The Bad, But It Only Worked To A Certain Point. I Did Enjoy Getting To Hang Out With @coleycookphotography And @jenlgray This Morning Before It All Hit Me, Weirdly, Almost To The Exact Moment That Mom Slipped Away. So I'm Going To Spend The Evening Curled Up In Bed, Crying My Eyes Out Sporadically And Thinking About What Awesome Things Mom Would Have Said About The Photos I've Been Taking Lately If She Had The Chance To See Them.
I Can't Dance, So I Like To Make Other People Do It So I Can Watch! I Seriously Need To Shoot Here One More Time Before I Go Home... Who Wants To Go Shoot??? Pretty Please??
I Was Picking Rocks Out Of My Knees After Getting This Shot. I Loved This Background But When I Was Standing Up You Could See The Road Below So I Laid Out On The Ground To Make It All Disappear, Making It Look Like We Were In A Much More Remote Location! Genius, Right?
I Thought I Was Pretty Aware Of What My Photo Style Was, But I've Learned Even More About What I Like From This Trip. I Would Drool Over Photos I Saw With The Crazy Red Rocks, But I've Now Realized That's Not A Look For Me. My Editing Style Just Doesn't Work With Those Deep Reds & Browns, Those Super Earthy Tones Are Not Me. I Still Love My Blues, Grays & Greens Of The Mountains Most, But I Have Learned That I Love The Soft Pastels Of The Desert... So Along With Mountains, This Is What I Want To Shoot More Of! I Am Just In Love With This Spot, A Little Area Off The Side Of The Highway, Easy To Ignore When Driving By, It's Just Spectacular!
