I Was Back At Moraine Lake Yesterday, My First Day Since The Road Was Re-opened This Year. Originally Kevin Had Planned A Surprise Proposal For Charlene There But He Got Excited And Popped The Question A Day Early! This Was One Of 2 Surprise Proposals That I Was Going To Do At Moraine This Year... I'm No Longer Offering Them As A Full Surprise. I Actually Didn't Sleep The Night Before Out Of Fear For All The Things That Could Go Wrong Trying To Do This At Moraine Lake. I Might Have Cheered A Little When I Got The Email Saying He Had Already Proposed Haha⠀ ⠀ Moraine Lake Was Looking A Bit Different Than Usual Yesterday. It's Still Pretty Much Frozen Except For A Small Open Section, But The Water Levels Also Crazy Low, Like 15 Feet Lower Than Usual Because, I Imagine, There Hasn't Been Enough Melt. It Was Super Tricky To Shoot There, More Than Usual Even, Because There Were People Everywhere In The Background On The Ice. I Almost Never Pull A Photo Into Photoshop, But There Were So Many People And Their Reflections In The Water, I Had To Make It All Go Away Or I Wouldn't Have Been Happy. Swipe To See The Before!

So A While Back I Posted A Casting Call For Lgbtq+ Couples (if I Missed Anything, I'm Sorry!!) Because I Had Received An Email From A Couple Wondering If I Was Ok With Photographing Them. I Never Even Thought About It, But It Made Me Sad That Some People Thought They Had To Ask If I Was Willing. Of Course I Am Willing. I Don't Care Who You Love, I'm Just Happy That You Found Someone To Love & To Love You Back. So After That I Decided I Needed To Make A Point Of Showing More Types Of Couples On My Website So That People Wouldn't Have To Ask.⁠ ⁠ Things Got Crazy Busy And I Haven't Been Able To Fit Any Of Those Sessions In With My Travel Schedule, But Alyssa & Jenny Were One Of The First Couples I Made Plans To Shoot With & Since They Were Going To Be In The Mountains For Their Honeymoon (they Were Married On Saturday In Edmonton, Give Them A Big Congratulations), It Worked Out That I Would Be Able To Do Photos With Them! I'm Still Trying To Figure Out How & When To Fit In A Few Of The Other Sessions, But It's Going To Take Me A Few Months!⁠ ⁠ Anyway, These Two Got Dressed Up Again & We Ventured Out To Peyto Lake To Do Photos. I Had A Great Time With Them (and Seriously Hoping There's No Grudges For What I Made Them Hike In Wedding Clothes Haha) & I Am Truly In Love With Their Photos! This One Especially! It Is Epic On So Many Levels!⁠ ⁠ I Really Want To Thank Them For Taking The Time To Do This With Me When They Could Have Been Having An Easy Day On Their Honeymoon Haha ⁠ ⁠ So Please Share This Far & Wide!

I Had Spied This Spot When I Was Driving On The Highway Last Week & Filed It Away As A Spot I Wanted To Try To Shoot At. From Above I Thought The Water Was A "puddle"... Turns Out It Was A Freezing Cold Mountain Stream... But Anyway.⁠ ⁠ After Kim & Dan's Ceremony & Photos At Peyto, We Were Headed To Bow Lake & I Really Just Wanted To Do Photos Here... So We Pulled Off On The Side Of The Highway & Went Down The Bank. I Got Them Over On The Rocky Area With The Wildflowers And I Looked At The Puddle... And Realized It Was Pretty Deep. I Was Hell Bent On Getting That Reflection Though.⁠ ⁠ So I Took Off My Hiking Boots & Socks, Rolled My Pants Up As High As I Could And Stepped Into That Freezing Mountain Stream To My Knees. Then I Felt The Slick, Goopy Muck That Was Lining The Bottom Of The Stream Squish Through My Toes And Go Up To My Ankles. Yuck. I Waded Out Slowly Since It Was Slippery And Found A Spot Where I Could Get The Reflection & We Waited A Little For My Steps To Be Erased From The Surface.⁠ ⁠ Then We Got Magic! Like Whole Bunches Of Magic! I'm So Happy Kim & Dan Were Ok To Climb Down Into Essentially What Was Another Ditch To Let Me Take This Photo! ⁠ ⁠ Sometimes The Spots That I Want To Take You Seem A Little Weird Or Iffy, But I Swear Its Only To Be Able To Create Something This Amazing For You.⁠ ⁠ And I'm Still Cleaning Mud Out From Between My Toes... That Stuff Was Like Super Glue.

Yesterday Was Kind Of A Big Day For Me. It Marked The 12 Year Anniversary Of When I Decided To Make A Real Thing Of This Photography Business & Env Photography Was Born. I Look Back Over The Past 12 Years & Boy Has My Style Changed. I Used To Be All About Industrial, Urban & Grungy; Hated The Idea Of Shooting In Nature. Over Time I've Found What Makes Me Happy & Yesterday's Heli-elopement Is Everything I Dream Of Now!⁠ ⁠ I Got Over My Fear Of Helicopters (thanks Sara & Devin!!) & Spent The Evening Being Eaten Alive By Mosquitos In The Most Beautiful Places With Even Awesomer People. Last Night I Photographed A Proposal At Moraine Lake. Because Moraine Is So Hard To Get Into & There's No Way To Contact Any One Because There's No Cell Service, I Met Up With Amal & Harini & We Drove Into Together. He Told Her That He Booked A Photo Session For Them So It Wasn't A Total Surprise.⁠ ⁠ We Started With A Few Photos Along The Way Up The Rock Pile & I Let Them Stop To Take In The View. We Jumped Into A Few More Photos Because I Kinda Wanted Harini To Not Be Expecting The Proposal When It Came. We Waited It Out For A Nice Spot That Was Semi-secluded. Then I Said We'd Do A Few Individual Photos... This Gave Amal The Chance To Grab The Ring Box & Get Ready. I Had Harini Turn To Look At At The Lake And Do That Insta Photo That Everyone Does... 😁⁠ ⁠ Amal Approached, They Hugged, Then He Dropped To One Knee & Asked The Big Question!! Of Course Harini Said Yes! The Best Part Was Watching Her Excitement & Her Fighting Off The Tears... So Truly Happy!! You Could Just See Her Glowing For The Rest Of The Night! Life Is Rough Over Here.⁠ ⁠ Last Night Was The Last One For Alex & Chloe For Their Visit In Banff National Park. Earlier In The Week Alex Proposed To Chloe At Moraine Lake & We Went There Last Night To Celebrate With Their Engagement Session. Now They Are Head Back Home To Nyc (and I'm Hoping I Can Convince Them To Shoot With Me There When I Go In December!). A Big Congratulations To Them!! And I Have To Add...
