Usually My First Sneak Peek Is Just The Newlywed Couple, But With Michelle & Ian's Elopement, I Feel Like Hadley Is Just As Important To Include! What An Awesome Family Unit They Are! I Feel Pretty Lucky Most Days That I Get To Spend Time With Such Great People Capturing These Milestones! I Don't Get Sentimental Too Often, But I'm Having A Slight "all The Feels" Moment Right Now!
Ok, So I Finally Stopped Snuggling The Cats & Got Out Of Bed. I Slowly Got Dressed And Just Poked Around For The Morning Because It's Been A While Since I've Had A Day Off At Home & I'm Feeling Pretty Lazy. I Got To Work & Answered A Good Chunk Of E-mails, Decided I Needed A Break From That, So I Started To Work On Editing This Elopement.
Chrystal & Jared's Ceremony Looks Like It Was Just The Two Of Them In An Amazing Spot Saying Vows To Each Other (with Me & @patricksmiley, Of Course), But In Reality There Were About 40 People Above Us Watching Their Private Ceremony. Some Were Respectful & Quiet, Others Were Not. They Were Also Being Photographed By Complete Strangers As They Said "i Do!". We All Try Really Hard To Make It Look Like You Are Alone In These Beautiful Locations, But The Reality Is... Well, It Just Doesn't Happen Often! There Are Almost Always People Around, Almost Always Someone Watching.
Tag The One You'd Like To Run Away To Moraine Lake With!
I Know It's The Middle Of Summer, So Why In The World Am I Showing Winter Photos?
I Actually Love Shooting In The Winter. My Favourite Time To Be At @emeraldlakelodge Is When It's Full Of Snow. For The This Elopement, The Ceremony Was Supposed To Be At The Viewpoint... But There Was No View And The Snow Was So High There Was Nowhere For Me To Stand For Me To Be Able To See Them... So I Picked This Spot In Front Of The Cabin With A Snow Covered Tree Making An Arch And That's Where We Did The Ceremony! When You Don't Have Guests & Are Truly Eloping, There's So Many Options! This Is One Of My Favourite Ceremonies From Emerald Lake!
Are You Thinking About A Winter Wedding? I'd Love To Be The One To Freeze With You & Make Some Snowy Magic!
Yesterday Was Kind Of A Big Day For Me. It Marked The 12 Year Anniversary Of When I Decided To Make A Real Thing Of This Photography Business & Env Photography Was Born. I Look Back Over The Past 12 Years & Boy Has My Style Changed. I Used To Be All About Industrial, Urban & Grungy; Hated The Idea Of Shooting In Nature. Over Time I've Found What Makes Me Happy & Yesterday's Heli-elopement Is Everything I Dream Of Now!
I Got Over My Fear Of Helicopters (thanks Sara & Devin!!) & Spent The Evening Being Eaten Alive By Mosquitos In The Most Beautiful Places With Even Awesomer People. Yesterday's Elopement With Nikia & Jonathan (and Really How I've Been Spending Most Of This Year Is Exactly Where I Want To Be) Has Me Excited To See What The Future Brings! Elopements & Intimate Weddings In The Mountains & In The Great Outdoors In General Is Truly What I Love!
Now, Enough About Me. Let's Just Ogle Nikia & Jonathan, Be A Little Jealous Of How Amazing Their Wedding Day Was & Pass Along Wishes That Their Mosquito Bites Don't Burn & Itch Halfway As Much As Mine Do!
I'm Headed Back To #morainelake Tomorrow For An Engagement Session & For An Elopement... So If You're Climbing Around On The Rockpile & See Me, Be Sure To Say Hello! I'll Be The Sweaty One With A Couple Cameras Strapped To Me, Making Terrible Jokes & Hoping Everyone Laughs!
Now Throwing It Back To A Little Over A Week Ago (it Seriously Feels Like This Was More Than 9 Days Ago!) To The Day That Mike Pulled Off An Epic Proposal To Genna At Moraine Lake!
This Spot Is A Dream For An Intimate Wedding Or Elopement Ceremony... A Room For A Few To Stand With No One Going Over The Edge!
Ok, Who Else Is Totally Freaking Out Over How Gorgeous The Light Is Hitting The Mountains In The Background? Dreamy!! And Those Clouds! Perfection!
Call Me Crazy (i've Been Called Worse Than That!), But In The Afternoon Before Isis & Nick's Elopement At Moraine Lake On Tuesday, I Met Up With Hailee & Tom For Their Engagement Session!
Things Could Have Gone Terribly Wrong Since The Shuttle In Was Going To Take Two Hours To Get On & I Had No Service When I Was Out There To Know They Couldn't Get There, But Luck Was On Their Side When The Nice Parks People At The Gate Let Them In! Moraine Lake Is Gorgeous But It's A Hard Spot To Plan For Photos! You Just Never Know If You'll Be Able To Get In!
We'd Also Been Chatting About Photos For A While & It Turns Out Tom Popped The Big Question On Friday So Their Session Ended Up Being An Engagement!
And How About The Fact That Tom Is Just Holding Hailee In This Carry/dip Like It Takes No Effort At All???
My First Time Shooting At Waterfowl Lakes & We Got The Magical Light As The Sun Was Setting Behind The Mountains. It Was The Perfect Way To End The Day With Nikia & Jonathan!
My Favourite Part Of Elopements Is That We Can Plan To Shoot With The Best Light Because You Aren't Worried About Making Your Guests Wait For Dinner (although Poor Jonathan Was Starving At This Point Haha). We Gte To Plan The Day Around Getting You The Best Pictures Possible While Having The Best Time Ever!
Driving To Lake Louise Yesterday, The Rain Was Coming Down Pretty Hard. I Was Thinking It Was Going To Be Another Day Of Battling The Rain. But The Weather Gods Smiled On Laura & Nick For Their Elopement Yesterday.
We Had Low Clouds & Brightness Of The Sun Trying To Fight Through... My Favourite Weather. It Was Chillier & That Kept People Away So Lake Louise Wasn't Too Crazy Busy For Their Ceremony!
After Wandering The Shores Of The Lake For A While, It Started To Sprinkle So We Headed Off To Emerald Lake For Canoe Photos. We Were Blessed With Magical Clouds & Still Waters... And The Best Part Was That Emerald Lake Wasn't Busy Either! Although, That Didn't Stop The Small Group Of People There From Frantically Taking Photos Of Laura & Nick During Our Portrait Session!
After Leaving The Lake, We Stopped To Play In The Road To Get Some Epic Car Photos (cause Look At That Car!!)... Again Luck Was On Our Side Because Traffic Was Light! What A Fantastic Day We Had!
One Of The Many Things I Love About Elopements Is That The Whole Day, The Whole Trip, Is Just About The Couple. You Travel Together, You Get Ready Together, You Walk Into The Ceremony Together... Well, That's How We Did It For Christie & Teddy's Elopement At Emerald Lake Lodge Yesterday & It Was Just Lovely. Weddings Are Supposed To Be About The Couple But Sometimes That Is Lost With Bigger Events.
It Was A Chilly September Day, Just Hovering Around Freezing & Surprisingly, There Was No Snow At Emerald Lake. Following The Ceremony, We Wandered Around The Lake, Took A Trip Out The Natural Bridge (which Looks Amaaaaaaazing This Time Of Year), Topped To Play In The Road For A Bit Before I Returned Them To The Lodge To Warm Up & Enjoy Their Evening Together. Such A Good Day! They Are Headed Back Home Now, But At Least They've Got A Whole Lot Of Awesome Memories To Take With Them!
I've Been Wanting To Shoot Moraine Lake When It's Been Freshly Covered In A Blanket Of Snow For Ages. It's Caught Flurries & A Flash Blizzard, But I Haven't Been Able To Get It When There Is A Real Good Layer Of Snow Down. I've Also Been Dreaming About Seeing It When It's Fully Frozen, Not Covered In Snow & That Gorgeous Blue Was Showing Through. Well, That Dream Came True Today. I Convinced Angelica & Juan To Change Location For Their Engagement Session So We Could Go To Moraine!
Moraine Lake, On A Good Summer Day, Can Be Tricky To Navigate. Well Add A Ton Of Snow & Ice & It's Kinda Treacherous To Navigate. The Stairs Up The Rock Pile Were Pure Ice. We Walked Off Trail A Good Bit To Avoid Sliding. It Was Hard To Move Around, I Didn't Want Them To Have To Change Footing A Lot For Fear Of Falls. There Definitely Is A Reason Moraine Is Closed For The Winter. We Heard Multiple Ice Booms & A Rock Slide Or Two While We Were There Too!
I'm Now Ready For Moraine Lake To Close & I Look Forward To Heading Back There Next Year For More Elopements, Proposals & Engagements! Thanks For All The Awesome Moraine! Enjoy A Sleepy Winter!
I Knew I Wanted To Shoot In This Spot When I Looked At It Earlier In The Day But We Didn't Make It Out There Before The Sun Dropped Away (i Was Hoping To Get A Little Backlight Through The Trees) & Winter Light, Especially In The Shadow Of The Mountain, Can Be So Cold. I Loved All Of The Fresh Snow So We Shot Anyway... Knowing That I Could Create The Look That I Was Hoping For In Post! I Can't Always Get My Way, But I Make The Most Of It & In This Case, We Still Managed To Make Something Magical For Lynzy & Jon!
Take A Look At The Before Shot To See The Difference Editing Can Make! What Do You Think??

The Perfect Ending To A Fairytale Wedding Day Is A Stop At Surprise Corner So You Can Have The Castle In The Mountains In The Background For Photos! It Also Makes Sense That Lynzy & Jon Were Staying At @fairmontbanff & Had Their Reception Dinner There Afterwards!

I Took A Break From Social Media This Past Week. It's Amazing How Much Work You Can Get Done When You Don't Spend Tile Aimlessly Scrolling Through Facebook & Instagram. I Missed Insta The Most... I Can Live Without Fb & All Of The Crap That People Seem To Post..
I Was So Productive This Past Week That I Am Actually Working On November Weddings In November! Normally This Is The Time Of Year Where I Am Most Stressed With Editing & Timelines, But I'm Pretty Pleased With Myself.... Not Much Longer Til This Amazing Wedding Is Finished... So I Can Show Off More Of That Mesmerizing Blue Ice!
Off To Bed For Me Now, I'm Headed To Emerald Lake Tomorrow & I'm Pretty Frickin' Excited! Cross Fingers For Freshly Falling Snow Please!

It's So Hard Picking What Photos To Sneak Peek, But I Feel Like If You Wear A Backless Wedding Dress In Winter, We Need To Show That Off!
