Why did you choose to have a destination wedding? Being a wedding planner for a living, I wanted to be able to step outside of what I am used to being in a venue in the states.
Why did you choose Mexico and AVA Cancun for your destination wedding? What were the deciding factors? Beyond the fact that It's stunning; we were interested in a Family (all inclusive) resort that still had the luxury feel that the adults only resorts offer. We wanted offerings of things kids could do but not be centered around them with Characters running around. We wanted our ceremony outside but not on the beach. Lots of things to do so we didn't have to leave the resort as well.
What was your most memorable moment during your destination wedding? The Wedding Day - Everything was perfect.
What was your experience working with Kerri and Sunlover Travel? Kerri from Sunlover Travel was truly a godsend for our destination wedding. From the very beginning, she made us feel like her top priority, always stepping in with solutions even for challenges that weren’t her responsibility. Her responsiveness and professionalism were unmatched, but what truly set her apart was her kindness and genuine care. She wasn’t just our travel agent; she felt like part of our team, making sure every detail was perfect. Kerri’s warmth, dedication, and adorable personality turned what could have been stressful moments into smooth and joyful ones. We’ll forever be grateful for her!
What advice would you give to other couples who are considering a destination wedding?
1. Hire a travel agent! That's a must!
2. Visit the Venue before your wedding! - This saved us!
3. Destination Vendors were my biggest thorn in the side due to my assigned planner through the hotel (Vanessa). The planner that I was assigned to was horrible at communicating and having us understand expectations. So ask alot of questions and follow up.
4. Simplify the guest experience. Provide clear instructions to guests about travel, accommodations, and activities. Creating a wedding website or guide with all the necessary details is a lifesaver.
5. Destination weddings often mean outdoor ceremonies. Have a backup plan for bad weather and consider the climate when choosing your attire and schedule.
6. Stay Flexible & Enjoy your Engagement & Planning Process as much as you can. Things may not go exactly as planned, but the beauty of a destination wedding is creating unforgettable memories in an incredible location. Focus on the love and celebration, and let the little things go.
