Your honeymoon is a once-in-a-lifetime adventure. It’s the first time you will travel as a married couple and it’s the way you start off your marriage. Now is not the time to cut corners but, after all the expenses involved in the wedding, it can be very tempting to skimp on your honeymoon to save a few dollars.
Sure, you’d love to have the honeymoon you’ve imagined in your daydreams (or seen in bridal magazines), but you just don’t think you can swing it.
I beg to differ.
Here are three easy ways to afford the honeymoon you’ve always wanted:
Set up a payment plan. Most destinations and cruise lines allow you to confirm your honeymoon with just a small deposit and then make payments over time. Get your honeymoon on the books early and you will have a long time to pay in full.
Start a registry. You don’t really need new towels, do you? Instead of registering for gifts, have your guests contribute to your honeymoon instead! (Ask me how we can set up a dedicated Honeymoon Registry for you!)
Skip the Starbucks. Bear with me here. If you and your fiance each purchase one Starbucks drink every work day at an average of $5 per drink, that’s $50 per week. Multiply that by 52 weeks per year and you’ve spent $2600 for coffee! Make your coffee at home and put those funds toward your honeymoon payment plan instead and your dream honeymoon is in reach!
So, yes, Virginia (and Maryland, Oklahoma, Florida…) you can afford your dream honeymoon without having to steal any funds from your fantasy wedding.
