I knew from the start of our introductory conversation that Shelby was right for us. We had already selected our venue and date so I could answer those initial questions. When Shelby asked about aesthetic, design, or theme I paused. I laughed and said something like no drama or chaos, and a chill vibe - is that a design aesthetic? She heartily laughed then responded with a quip about human behavior, weddings, and, if necessary, the “mom voice”. In that moment I knew that I could be myself and our personalities worked well together; it would also complement my now husband’s personality as well. We could face the inevitable unknowns and chaos as a team.
Shelby proceeded to ask thoughtful questions to get to know us and understand our style. I was able to tell her more about what we didn’t like/want than what we did. Yet, she was able to suggest a vendor that wasn’t on my radar and perfect for us. By the end of our conversation, it was clear Shelby would introduce levity and humor to the experience (lots of it), expertly navigate our cast of characters (which she definitely did), and keep everything on track (and ahead of schedule when weather threatened).
We could not have anticipated how phenomenal Shelby would be the month leading up to our wedding. She far exceeded any expectation or thought we had about the experience. Before our month-out meeting, we shared our planning “binder” with Shelby.She reviewed it in advance of our meeting and arrived with excellent follow-up questions and suggestions. We included a fair number of DIY additions to the decor that came with some design ideas (from n00bs, to be clear), and Shelby was totally on board with making it work. It was important to us that the things we made be included, but she really pulled it all together in a way that worked. We were confident Shelby understood the “vision” and, if there were issues the day of, she would handle it with that vision in mind. We discussed all of the details, including the things we would need to figure out a few days before or the day of our wedding because of family health issues. Shelby was compassionate and supportive, and ready with plans A-Z for whatever happened. And, at the rehearsal, when there were several new ideas or suggestions for family needs, Shelby looked to me. I said that we’d proceed with the original plan and she moved us along to the next step. But, if needed, she was ready to step in and handle the moment. There were several moments throughout the rehearsal where I appreciated our visual check-in and unspoken alignment on how to handle the moment.
Shelby’s fantastic communication skills and calm approach really kicked in at this time, and she masterfully handled several challenges and concerns that arose with a vendor. One day a few weeks before the wedding when things started to go sideways with a vendor, my now husband commented “Shelby is already on it, as usual”. Shelby gifted us peace of mind and support when we really needed it.
Everything was exquisite the day of the wedding. When the curtains were pulled back in the ballroom, I was overcome with emotion. The room was enchanting, perfect. Shelby and her team attended to every detail and the execution exceeded anything we envisioned. We had a great time without a worry because Shelby was on it.
Shelby is as incredible a person as she is an event planner. Your day will be full of joy and happiness if you work with Shelby. We cannot recommend Shelby and Shelby Your Day Events enough.
Shelby did such a great job helping us plan our wedding and her day-of planning and organization allowed us to totally enjoy the day and not worry about every little detail. We were hesitant about getting a wedding planner, but Shelby offered the perfect blend of services that tailored to our exact needs. I really do not think I would have been able to fully be in the moment and enjoy every second of my wedding without Shelby's help!
I was on the fence about whether or not a wedding coordinator was worth it. If you are, too, hire Shelby!!! She was worth every penny. She and her assistant, Ann Erika were so professional, calm, and wonderful to work with. They made sure me and my bride were able to just show up and have a great time on our wedding day. We had the opportunity to work with Shelby recently and she was so on top of every little detail. Even when unexpected weather came along, she stayed calm cool and collected. Shelby was incredible! Our rental vendor showed up fifteen minutes before the rehearsal dinner, and Shelby kept us calm and handled the situation perfectly. The rest of our wedding weekend was smooth and steady with Shelby at the controls. She was on top of every detail, and met every challenge with professionalism, competence, and a dash of humor. Shelby is absolutely brilliant and worth her weight in gold. Our wedding was a logistical nightmare, with a remote and non-traditional venue we had booked long before hiring a planner. Through it all, Shelby was steady, clear, efficient, kind, creative, ready with a laugh, ready with some excellent question or suggestion that hadn't occurred to us. She saved the day over and over again and gave us the wedding of our dreams. My husband and I absolutely loved working with her and when we next throw an event, she will be our first phone call.
