about-designs

About-designs is a family business started by sisters Eva and Sonya in 2015. Their love of flowers, plants and interiors began several years earlier though. It was during Sonya’s first year in the interior design program at The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) and Eva was in her junior year of high school. Both girls were looking for a seasonal job around the holidays and on a whim at the request of their mother, answered a newspaper ad for a local florist/greenhouse. The seasonal job turned into a great part time job and fantastic learning opportunity for the girls. Fortunately this shop was a family business pulling together a multitude of talents from farming to growing to floral design. Sonya and Eva look back fondly on their experiences in the set-up of events at museums, weddings and holiday parties and helping customers in the the florist's storefront. Placing an equal interest in the flowers as well as the space they occupy, about-designs schemes to be an integral part of the overall aesthetic. As a trained as an interior designer, Sonya strives to incorporate the all elements a cohesive manner. In Eva’s spare time you may find her cooking or playing tennis. Sonya enjoys scouring tag sales for unique antique vessels and furniture or digging into a new renovation project.  
At about-designs we recognize there is a bit of waste in the design industry from shipping to packing to construction and everything in between. Whenever possible we try to incorporate antique vessels/furniture from our collection or from our clients. With respect to flowers, we aim to purchase as much as possible grown in the Garden State. During the holiday season we cut our own greenery from local farms.
